ABOUT US

Counter Balance was launched in 2007 as a campaign specifically aimed at challenging the
European Investment Bank (EIB) to push for its reform. While the EIB remains our main
target, we have since then expanded the scope of our work to other public finance
institutions.

Counter Balance is a coalition of 9 NGOs whose mission is to make European public finance a key driver of the transition towards socially and environmentally sustainable and equitable societies.

Over the last decade, we have monitored extensively the operations of the EIB and led campaigns to make it a more sustainable, democratic and transparent institution.

Counter Balance’s mission is to make European public finance a key driver of a fair and just transformation into socially and environmentally sustainable and equitable societies where the economy works for all (human and non-human alike) rather than for the few.

We do this by holding EU public financial institutions to account to their public mission, challenging harmful decisions, policies and projects, and promoting alternatives.

Counter Balance is a coalition of NGOs coordinated by a Secretariat and supported by an active Board.

We are financed by our member organisations and a variety of public and private funders who take our mission to heart and support our cause.

We would like to thank all our donors for their support.
