At a time of climate breakdown, widening inequality and deepening corporate capture, EU public finance must do better. Yet, instead of investing in the services and infrastructure that sustain everyday life—like housing, healthcare, and clean energy—European institutions are funnelling billions into corporate competitiveness, militarisation and risky tech bets.
In 2024, we ramped up efforts to hold the EIB accountable to its climate promises, expose the flaws of initiatives like the Global Gateway, and push back against the growing role of Export Credit Agencies and defence spending in EU finance. We advocated for a public banking model that prioritises social needs over profit, and called out harmful investments in extractive industries, fossil fuels and unsustainable agriculture—especially in the Global South.
Our campaigns are driven by research, cross-border collaboration and pressure on policymakers to realign EU finance with human rights, climate justice, and economic sovereignty. As the EIB enters a new chapter under President Calviño, we’re demanding a course correction: one that centres people, not profits.
A huge thank you to our donors and partners for making this work possible.
