Or how the European Union funds Italian mega projects linked to corruption
Back to overviewItaly’s got a bad reputation of bribing and institutionalised corruption, everybody knows that. Even the European Union. Nevertheless, it does not contradict the mega projects mantra. In fact, there is an institution that never refrains from helping our companies in constructing mega projects. It is the European Investment Bank (EIB). In 2014, the generosity of the EIB towards our country reached a new record high: €10.9 billion. Even though many of the projects could be linked to corruption. From Mose to the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway, through the Livorno regasification plant and the incinerator in Parma, the EIB has continued to provide money even when the bubble had already burst. Why?
